How our recall data works
Every recall on ConsumerSun comes straight from a U.S. government agency. We don't write recall facts ourselves.
Where it comes from
- CPSC Recalls API: consumer products such as furniture, toys, appliances and electronics. Last 2 years.
- openFDA enforcement reports: food and animal food (last 12 months), drugs and medical devices (last 120 days).
- NHTSA recalls data: vehicles, tires, equipment and car seats. Last 12 months. For your own car, use your VIN on NHTSA.gov.
- USDA FSIS (meat, poultry and egg products) isn't included yet because its feed blocks automated requests from servers. Check the FSIS recalls page directly.
How often it updates
We pull each feed every few hours. Agencies publish on their own schedules: openFDA enforcement data is usually updated weekly, so a brand-new food recall can show up on FDA's site a few days before it reaches the feed.
What a match means
A search match means a recall mentions what you typed. It doesn't mean your item is affected. Compare the model number, lot code, UPC and dates on the agency notice with your product.
