Recalls in Florida: What the Data Shows

Florida ranks third in the ConsumerSun state ranking. In the ConsumerSun Recall Index, 753 recalls dated between October 31, 2024, and October 27, 2026, carry an official distribution statement naming Florida. Another 1,444 recalls in that window were distributed nationwide, so they reached Florida too, on top of the 753 counted here.

The Index tracks 4,726 recalls from three federal agencies: the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). This article covers which companies account for the most recalls distributed in Florida, which hazards appear most often, and what to do if you own a recalled product. For the national picture, see our ranking of recalls by state.

Which companies file the most recalls distributed in Florida?

ASP Global leads the Florida list with 64 records, all of them disposable tourniquet cuffs sold under the Expressaire brand. Medline Industries follows with 55 records, mostly surgical convenience kits.

Florida's food filers are close behind. Taylor Fresh Foods accounts for 25 records, Galaxy RG for 23, and Taylor Farms de Mexico for 21. Surgify Medical Oy, a maker of surgical burrs, also files 19 records naming Florida. The result is a list split between hospital supply chains and grocery supply chains, with very little in between.

What are the leading hazards in Florida recalls?

The most common hazard wording is the ASP Global labeling failure: 64 records for tourniquet cuffs printed with a 10 year shelf life when the validated shelf life is 5 years, on products made between September 2016 and March 2023.

Florida stands out for food contamination:

  • Potential contamination with Salmonella accounts for 40 records, the highest Salmonella count among the five states in this series.
  • Undeclared colors, listed as Yellow #5, Yellow #6, and Red #40, account for 23 records.
  • Potential Cyclospora contamination accounts for 21 records, tied to lettuce and salad products.
  • Potential for burr breakage during bi-portal endoscopic spinal surgery accounts for 19 records.

What are some recent recalls that reached Florida?

Three records dated October 21, 2026, are the kind a Florida shopper is most likely to meet:

  • Saratoga Potato Chips LLC recalled J. HIGGS Loaded Bacon and Cheddar Potato Chips in 7.75 ounce bags. The hazard is undeclared soy, which the label does not list.
  • Refresco Beverages US Inc recalled Pur Aqua Sparkling Frost Cherry Limeade in 17 ounce bottles. The drink may contain undeclared aspartame.
  • Daring Foods Inc recalled its plant based Steak Bites in a microwaveable pouch. The packaging is defective and can rupture during cooking.

What should a Florida consumer do with a recalled product?

  1. Check the product against the current list on ConsumerSun's weekly recall page. Match the lot code, UPC, or use by date, not just the product name.
  2. Follow the remedy in the official agency record linked from the Index. Remedies range from a refund at the store to an instruction to stop using the product and throw it away.
  3. Keep the packaging, or a photo of the lot code, until the remedy is complete. Grocery refunds often require it.
  4. For undeclared allergen recalls, the record is written for people with that allergy. If the allergen is not one your household avoids, the record still tells you whether the product is part of the recall.

How did ConsumerSun count Florida recalls?

We counted every recall in the Index dated October 31, 2024, through October 27, 2026, whose official distribution statement names Florida. Distribution statements come mainly from Food and Drug Administration records, so this state list reflects food and medical product recalls more than vehicle recalls, which rarely name individual states. In total, 2,122 of the 4,726 records in the Index carry no distribution statement at all, which makes 753 a floor rather than a complete census. One recall can name many states, so the state counts overlap and do not add up to the national total. The 1,444 nationwide recalls reached every state and are counted separately.
