Amazon Recalls: How Amazon Tells You and How Refunds Work

Short answer: Amazon lists recalls for things you bought on a "Your Recalls and Product Safety Alerts" page in your account, and it keeps a public list of recalls for products sold in its store. When Amazon learns of a recall, it says it removes the product and tells customers and sellers. For the refund or fix, Amazon tells you to contact the manufacturer first, then the seller.

How Amazon tells you about a recall

According to Amazon's Product Safety and Recalls help page, when Amazon learns of a recall or safety alert it removes the product from its store and supply chain and notifies customers and sellers.

For some products, a federal order sets out exactly what Amazon has to do. Under a 2025 CPSC final order covering certain hazardous products sold by third-party sellers, Amazon must email original buyers, post the recall on their "Your Orders" page, and give a full refund to anyone who sends proof the product was destroyed or thrown away.

How to get a refund or fix for an Amazon recall

  1. Confirm it's your model. Match the model number or lot code first; our guide on how to check if a product is recalled shows where to find it.
  2. Open the recall notice. Use the link in Amazon's email or your recalls page, or find the CPSC notice on our Amazon hub. It lists the remedy: refund, repair or replacement.
  3. Contact the manufacturer first. Amazon's help page says to contact the manufacturer about a recall, then the seller if you can't reach the manufacturer. For Amazon's own brands, contact Amazon.
  4. Keep proof. Many remedies ask for a photo of the product, its model number, and proof you disabled it, like a cut power cord. Don't throw it out until the notice tells you to.
  5. If no one responds, CPSC has a recall complaint form linked from each recall notice for remedies that aren't being honored.

Our recall refund guide covers each type of remedy in more detail.

Watch out for fake "Amazon recall" texts

Scam texts claiming something you bought on Amazon is recalled have been widely reported. Don't tap links in a text. Go to Amazon yourself, open your account, and check your recalls page. If the recall is real, it'll be there or on the CPSC site. Walmart says outright that it doesn't text about recalls; see our Walmart recall guide. Costco posts its notices on its own site; see our Costco recall guide.

If someone in your house tends to tap links without thinking, a scam-site blocker is a reasonable backup. NordVPN's next-gen antivirus (it used to be called Threat Protection Pro) checks the sites you open against known phishing and scam pages. In AV-Comparatives' August 2026 phishing test, it blocked 94% of 250 live phishing URLs. It comes with some of NordVPN's paid plans, not all of them, and it's a backup, not a reason to start tapping links in texts.

Common Amazon recall categories

From the CPSC notices that name Amazon as a seller, recurring product types include power banks and other lithium battery products, dressers that can tip over, bed rails, and kids' products like bath seats and magnetic toys. Kitchen appliances show up too: the 2023 Cosori air fryer recall listed Amazon among its sellers. See our air fryer and pressure cooker recall guide.

Frequently asked questions

What has Amazon recalled lately?

As of October 14, 2026, recent CPSC recalls naming Amazon as a seller include NEWDERY power banks, Romorgniz six-drawer dressers, Agrish adult bed rails, ONTHEWEI baby bath seats and Kobayashi rechargeable hand warmers. Our Amazon recall hub shows the full, current list.

Does Amazon let you keep defective items?

For recalls, the notice decides. Many recall refunds ask you to destroy or dispose of the product and send proof, rather than ship it back. Under the 2025 CPSC order, Amazon must refund buyers of covered products who show it was destroyed. Follow the specific recall notice.
