Air fryer and pressure cooker recalls: models to check

Is yours recalled? The short answer

Yes, if the model number on your rating label appears in the list below. The largest air fryer recall here is the February 2023 recall of about 2 million Cosori air fryers, whose wire connection can overheat. Best Buy has run two Insignia air fryer recalls — about 635,000 units in April 2022 and about 187,400 more in March 2024. On the pressure cooker side, the big notices are the Ninja Foodi OP300 series lid recall (2025, about 1.8 million) and Ambiano electric pressure cookers sold at ALDI (2025). Oster French door countertop ovens with air fry round out the list. Everything below is the model list, how to find your number, and the remedy for each — the same ground our guide to checking any product you own covers for the rest of the house.

How to find your model number

Every match in this guide is made on a rating label — the silver or white sticker with the brand, model, voltage and serial number. You never need the box or the receipt to check. Work through these spots in order:

Air fryers:

  1. Flip it over. Unplug the unit, let it cool completely, and turn it on its side or upside down on a towel. The Cosori notice puts the model number on the bottom label; both Insignia notices say the rating label is on the underside; Magic Chef's recalled fryers carried it on the bottom too. Most basket-style fryers follow this pattern.
  2. Check the back, near the cord. Oven-style units and some brands put the rating label on the rear panel — the Oster label is on the back of the oven, and Instant Brands' manuals put the Vortex air fryer's rating label on the back, near the power cord.
  3. Use the manual as a backup. Cosori also printed the model number in the user manual. If the label is worn or greasy, the manual (or a photo of the label from when the unit was new) settles it.

Pressure cookers and multi-cookers:

  1. Look at the back of the base, near the power cord. Instant Pot's manuals — the most common design in this category — put the model name on the rating label there, with the serial number on a white sticker on the bottom.
  2. Turn the base over. The Ambiano label is on the bottom, and many cookers carry the full rating label there instead. Leave the inner pot out and the lid off so the base is light enough to tip safely.
  3. Don't look on the lid. The lid is the recalled part on both the Ninja Foodi and the Ambiano — and it carries no model information. The number that matters is on the base unit it locks onto.

Photograph the label when you find it. Recall registration for these appliances routinely asks for the model and serial numbers, and you only want to flip a hot, heavy appliance once.

Why are people getting rid of their air fryers?

It traces to the recall record, not to the appliance category. Between 2022 and 2024, CPSC posted at least six major air fryer recalls covering nearly 3.2 million units in the U.S. — Cosori (about 2 million), Insignia twice (about 635,000, then about 187,400), PowerXL (about 319,000), Magic Chef (about 11,750) and Secura (about 6,400). The hazard language repeats across the notices: overheating, catching fire, burning, melting. Cosori alone had received 205 reports of fryers catching fire, burning, melting, overheating or smoking when its recall posted, including 10 minor burn injuries and 23 reports of property damage. Best Buy's 2022 Insignia recall followed 68 U.S. reports of units catching fire, burning or melting; the 2024 recall added melting or breaking handles and oven-door glass that can shatter.

The remedies then finish the job. Appliance recalls rarely ask you to ship the unit back — they ask you to disable it. Cosori's replacement required photos of the unit with the cord cut off. Best Buy tells Insignia owners not to bring the fryer to a store, but to register for a refund. Tempo's Ambiano remedy wants photos of the cut cord, or the intact cooker returned to ALDI. A claimed-on recalled fryer is a discarded fryer, and millions of owners have now been through that process once. Our recall refund guide walks through how these proof-of-destruction refunds work.

What to do if yours is recalled

  • Cosori: stop using it and register at recall.cosori.com. CPSC says you'll need photos of the unit with the cord cut off. No receipt is needed.
  • Insignia: stop using it and go to recallrtr.com/airfryer. Don't return it to a Best Buy store. You get the receipt amount, or the model's average sale price without a receipt.
  • Ninja Foodi OP300: stop using the pressure cooking function and contact SharkNinja for a free replacement lid. CPSC says the air frying and other functions can still be used.
  • Oster: stop using it and contact Sunbeam for the free clip-on repair kit.
  • Ambiano: stop using it. Return it intact to any ALDI for a full refund, or email Tempo photos of the cut cord and the model and date code.

Where these were sold, and hearing about the next one

The Cosori recall lists Amazon, Walmart.com, Target, Best Buy, The Home Depot and many other stores, for units sold from June 2018 through December 2022 — see our Amazon recalls guide and Costco recalls guide for how those retailers handle notices. Registering a small appliance with its maker lets them contact you directly if it's recalled (see product registration), and the full list of appliance notices lives on our home recalls hub and the master recalls page.

Frequently asked questions

Is my air fryer recalled?

It is if the model number on its rating label matches the list in this guide. The big ones are about 2 million Cosori air fryers recalled in February 2023 for a wire connection that can overheat, and two Insignia recalls from Best Buy — about 635,000 units in April 2022 and about 187,400 more in March 2024. The model number is on the bottom label (Cosori) or the rating label underneath (Insignia). If yours matches, stop using it and follow the remedy — do not wait for it to misbehave.

Where is the model number on an air fryer?

On the rating label, and on almost every recalled model that label is underneath. CPSC's Cosori notice says the model number is printed on the bottom label of each unit and in the user manual; the Insignia notices put it on the rating label on the underside. Unplug the fryer, let it cool, and turn it over. Oven-style models and some brands (Instant Vortex) put the rating label on the back, near the power cord. Take a photo of the label once you find it — recall registration usually asks for it.

Why are people getting rid of their air fryers?

Because of the recalls, mostly. Between 2022 and 2024 CPSC posted at least six major air fryer recalls covering nearly 3.2 million units — Cosori, two Insignia recalls, PowerXL, Magic Chef and Secura — nearly all for overheating that can cause fires, burns, melting handles or shattering oven glass. And the remedies are built around disposal: Cosori owners had to cut the cord and send photos of the disabled unit to get a replacement, and Insignia owners register for a refund rather than returning the fryer to a store. A recalled air fryer you have claimed on is, by design, a thrown-away air fryer.

Can I still use my Ninja Foodi after the pressure lid recall?

The air fry function, yes — the pressure cooking function, no, not until the free replacement lid arrives. The May 2025 recall of about 1.8 million Ninja Foodi OP300 series cookers covers the pressure lid, which can be opened while the unit is pressurized and has caused burn injuries. CPSC says owners should stop using the pressure cooking function and contact SharkNinja for the free replacement lid; air frying and the other functions can still be used.
